Alaska Airport Hires Robot Dog To Scare Away Wildlife

Alaska’s second-largest airport has a new robotic defender. A headless, four-legged robotic dog the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has named Aurora will be based at the Fairbanks airport to perform “wildlife hazard reduction.” The robot is about the size of a Labrador Retriever and can handle all types of terrain.

The department says that Aurora will be camouflaged as a coyote or fox to scare off birds and other wildlife from interfering with the airport’s operations starting this fall. Last year, there were 10 incidents of airplanes hitting animals in Fairbanks, so Aurora has an important job.
