A $5 Bill Could Be Worth $2,000

If you have any $5 bills in your wallet, you might want to check them out before spending them. There are over 826 million $5 bills in circulation, but some can be worth a lot more to currency collectors. It’s all about the serial numbers.

According to GOBankingRates, bills with serials like “G88888888A” or “B55555555C” could be worth thousands because they have a “solid” serial number, where all digits are the same. Only about one in 11 million $5 bills have these solid serial numbers, which is why some can sell for over $2,000. If you find one, it’s a good idea to get it appraised at a local coin shop. Other denominations with unique serial numbers can also be valuable to collectors.
