3D-Printed Meat Will Soon Be Available At U.S. Supermarkets

Lab-grown meat has been on the horizon for a while as an alternative to conventional meat, and Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat have both shifted their strategies in the plant-based meat market lately. In case you were thinking that this market may be shrinking, you could be wrong, as 3D-printed meat is going to be available soon in U.S. supermarkets.

Steakholder Foods, Ltd. is a company that specializes in 3D-printing technology for entire cuts of plant-based meat, and it is introducing its new Perfecta Premium Plant-Based Meat at stores in the Northeastern U.S. There’s no official launch date, but you can expect to see Perfecta products before the end of the year.

The initial lineup of products includes Plant-Based Marbled Steak, Plant-Based Filet Mignon, Plant-Based Chicken Breast, Plant-Based Salmon Patties, and Plant-Based White Fish Patties. Arik Kaufman, chief executive of Steakholder Foods, said, “We believe the plant-based category is ready for a new generation of products that deliver on taste and eating experience without compromise. We intend to expand both our retail footprint and our distribution network as consumer demand grows.”

Perfecta has designed each product to replicate the sensory experience of conventional meat, with fibrous textures and marbling features intended to maintain flavor and juiciness while providing the nutritional benefits of plant-based meat.
