A Long Island woman got a terrifying surprise on her 47th birthday when the ground suddenly opened beneath her, sending her eight feet underground. Danielle Tammone was in her backyard in Bohemia when she fell into a deep hole and became trapped, with her dog Daisy watching nearby. She tried to climb out, but the surrounding stones kept crumbling, leaving her afraid she might suffocate.
After about 30 minutes, two neighbors heard her cries and came running, although they initially had trouble figuring out where the screams were coming from. They called 911, and emergency crews used a ladder to reach Tammone through mud, water, and roots. She escaped with whiplash and pulled muscles, and the rescue ended with everyone singing “Happy Birthday” to her.
