basketball player Zhang Ziyu is making a big impression at the Women’s World Cup, partly because the 19-year-old stands seven feet four inches tall. Zhang played just over 10 minutes and scored three points in China’s 74-70 overtime win over the Czech Republic, after causing more trouble for the United States in an earlier 94-61 loss.
WNBA star Caitlin Clark said Zhang’s size makes her extremely difficult to stop near the basket, but also pointed out that she is still young and learning how to use her advantage. Teammate Han Xu described Zhang as “just a little girl” away from basketball and said China is still learning how to use her skills best. Zhang was named MVP of the U18 Women’s Asia Cup two years ago and could eventually have a future in the WNBA.
