A revolting social media trend has forced the closure of two pools at a major Spanish waterpark. Staff at the Caribe Aquatic Park inside the PortAventura World resort in Tarragona detected human feces in two pools on the afternoon of August 18th, prompting an immediate evacuation of the crowded facility during peak tourist season. Video of the ordeal spread online, with one swimmer filming the scene and insisting it was not AI but reality.
The incidents are part of what is known in Spanish as the “reto marrón,” or “brown challenge,” in which people deliberately defecate in public pools, sometimes releasing feces hidden in bags or swimwear, with the goal of forcing closures for online clout. The affected pools had to be evacuated and thoroughly cleaned under regional health rules, which can keep them shut for 24 to 48 hours. The disgusting prank has caused a serious public health headache in Spain, closing more than 300 pools in recent years.
