For people with mobility impairments who can’t easily get to a bathroom, a Chinese company has built a solution that comes to them. Yueban debuted its Xiaoban smart toilet at the Shanghai International Aged Care and Rehabilitation Expo, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: an autonomous robot toilet that navigates your bedroom floor using a Lidar-based 3D obstacle avoidance system, positions itself beside the bed when needed, and then rolls itself back to a docking station when finished.
The docking station connects to the home’s existing plumbing, disposing of waste through a low-noise grinder while self-cleaning with pressurized water jets and UV light. To keep rooms smell-free, the unit uses foam shields and activated charcoal filters. The Xiaoban is already for sale in China for about $13,000, putting it in the price range of a mobility scooter or hospital-grade adjustable bed. No international availability has been announced yet.
