A man in China sparked outrage online after a video went viral showing his pet golden retriever running under the seat of a modified electric bike to power it. The footage, filmed by a fellow road user in Jiangsu province on March 16th, shows the dog harnessed and muzzled underneath the bike, with the battery removed so the animal’s running provides the power.
The man can also be seen holding a stick, which he appeared to use to urge the dog along. The video spread quickly and drew widespread accusations of animal abuse from viewers. Local traffic police tracked the man down but only gave him an informal warning, reportedly because of his age.
