Is there nothing that artificial intelligence can’t cause problems with? Well, you can take “weddings” off that list, as a Dutch couple’s marriage has been annulled because the person who officiated their wedding used a ChatGPT-generated speech that didn’t meet legal requirements. The ceremony took place last April in the city of Zwolle. Instead of asking if they would fulfill their marriage duties, the officiant asked if they would “continue supporting each other, teasing each other and embracing each other.”
After they said “I do,” they were declared “not only husband and wife, but above all a team, a crazy couple.” But a judge ruled that they never actually swore to fulfill their legal marriage vows, as required by Dutch law. The marriage has been removed from the city registry.
