What would you do in this situation? A factory worker in Russia received about $87,000 from his employer by mistake and refuses to give any of it back. Vladimir Rychagov got the money at the start of the year along with his vacation pay. The money was supposed to go to 34 employees at a different branch, but a software glitch sent it all to him instead. After researching online, Rychagov decided he could keep the money because it was a technical error, not a billing error.
His company says he has to return it and took him to court. Rychagov used the money to buy a new car and moved to another city with his family. The courts ruled against him, saying the payment wasn’t considered salary and he has to return it. Rychagov appealed to the Supreme Court, which accepted his case. He still believes the money is his and has no plans to return it.
