Chinese Car Company Launches Game That Lets You Throw Virtual Emojis At Other Drivers

A Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Xpeng, has unveiled a quirky, new augmented reality feature called “Road Rage Reliever.” Developed with Huawei, this system lets drivers aim animated emojis, like angry faces, shoes, or flip-flops, at other cars using a button on the steering wheel. These emojis appear in 3D on an 87-inch-wide heads-up display, creating the illusion that they’re floating in space about 33 feet ahead of the vehicle.

Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng described it as “technology-driven emotion” and part of a shift toward user-focused design that helps drivers release irritation peacefully. While some experts and regulators worry this could distract drivers, others say AR displays placed in the line of sight may actually improve focus and reaction time more than traditional dashboard screens.
