A Dutch snack brand called Rewind has created the world’s first 9-volt battery-flavored tortilla chips, targeting 90s kids who remember licking batteries as children. The company said it wanted to recreate that nostalgic metallic taste and buzzing feeling without using any actual battery parts. Chef Mattias Larsson used citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to make the tongue-tingling effect, then balanced it with mineral salts for the metallic flavor.
He says the result is surprisingly tasty and sparks curiosity…so to speak. Rewind is inspired by nostalgia and wanted to launch with a flavor that brings back weird childhood memories. The chips are currently only sold in the Netherlands, but the company plans to expand across Europe soon.
