There Are Now Methods That Will Erase Your Bad Memories…Sort Of

Here’s something no one saw coming, or if they did they didn’t remember it. Recent advancements in neuroscience are bringing the concept of dampening traumatic memories closer to reality, like in the 2004 film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” While completely erasing a memory is still fiction, researchers are using techniques to reduce the emotional impact of painful memories, offering potential relief for people suffering from conditions like PTSD and severe depression.

According to Dr. Jonathan Rasouli, a neurosurgeon at Northwell Staten Island University Hospital, there are at least three different methods that look promising: using magnetic fields to stimulate specific areas of the brain, implanting electrodes into those areas, and the use of high blood pressure medicine propranolol. Not everyone in the scientific field is a fan of the idea, but wiping out bad memories may be on the way.
