Sometimes, Old Man Sea has just what you want. While walking his dog on a New Jersey beach, Austin Contegiacomo discovered 11 intact whiskey bottles buried in the sand. The bottles, labeled “Lincoln Inn,” are believed to date back to the 1930s or 1940s, possibly from the Prohibition era. Lincoln Inn was produced by Distillers Corporation Limited in Montreal, Canada, during that time.
The exact reason these bottles washed ashore remains a mystery, but some think they could be linked to historical bootlegging activities along the Jersey Shore. Contegiacomo has shared the bottles with friends and family…no word on how smooth it is, since no one’s opened one of the bottles to try it yet. Said Contegiacomo, “If any of us intend to try it, I don’t think it’d be me that opens it.”
