New College Course Wants To Help Gen Z Conquer Their Fear Of Phone Calls

Cleaning Phone

The UK’s Nottingham College is seeing a lot of the same problem with Gen Z, so they’re introducing coaching to help them deal with the anxiety caused by talking to someone on the phone. Many Zoomers suffer from what’s called telephonophobia, with symptoms that include nausea, an increased heart rate, shortness of breath, dizziness, and muscular tension…all because they have to make a phone call.

Recent research suggests that the problem comes from social anxiety coming from a fear of judgment or humiliation. The college course has students use role play, call restaurants to ask what time they open, and to ask stores if they have a certain item in stock.
