The Friends of the Massena Public is sponsoring an event on Wednesday, January 16, at 6:00 PM.
Nellie Coakley BSN, MEd (Counseling) will speak on her experiences and how they are related to those described in the novel The Women written by Kristin Hannah. Reading the book is not required.
Nellie, a resident of Canton, served in the Mobile Army 7th Surgical Hospital as an Army nurse in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. She was stationed at the Seventh Surgical Hospital midway between Saigon Long Binh and Vũng Tàu on the South China Sea.
She worked as a nurse at Walter Reed where she met her husband, Tom, a fellow vet. She has spent 28 years counseling and advocating for all veterans.
