A Russian supermarket mogul’s offer to compensate anyone who was sickened by his chain’s products with $11,000 backfired when people began actively trying to get food poisoning for the payday. After at least 18 people were hospitalized from allegedly tainted goods sold at Zhiznmart recently, founder Ivan Zaichenko made the pledge.
However, he was soon inundated with dubious claims and reports of customers licking eggs inside the store to guarantee illness. Zaichenko has now been forced to clarify that only the original 18 would be eligible for compensation while sternly warning, “Please, don’t lick the eggs, it’s dangerous.”
